Saturday 6th November 2010 versus Deer Park at home
As this was my Wilnecote U'8s Saturday the following report of last Saturday's important and super 4-0 victory over Deer Park is compiled from the after match comments from the skipper TOM, MARK the manager and a few words from assistant manager Gary.

The Swifts lined up with Cory in goal, Tom & Tommy in defence with Danny, Harvey and Ollie in midfield and Jack as an out and out striker. Lewis and Travis awaited being summoned into the game to change or step up the performance as necessary.

The first half was keenly contested with free flowing "end to end action" and as half time approached Deer Park had their first chance but of the 2 chances that fell to the Swifts, Jack was able to convert one to ensure the Swifts went in 1 - 0 up ensuring that the half time team talk would be less of a "hair dryer" blast but more of a "keep doing what you're doing and the goals will come" motivational team talk!

The second half opened with the same end to end play but it became obvious that the introduction of Travis was beginning to give Jack more of the ball in important positions in front of goal. With Cory, Tom and Tommy again resolute in defence and denying Deer Park any opportunity, Jack was revelling in the space and good passes that were being threaded through from Danny, Ollie and Travis and it wasn't long before Jack added the second and third goals for his hat trick.

With Travis and Danny carving out more and more opportunities with little fear of any slip ups at the back where Harvey had swapped with Tommy to add fresh legs to the defence, Danny fired a right foot shot into the top corner of the Deer Park goal only to have it disallowed by the referee for an infringement that only he saw. Finally Jack turned provider for Travis and a good cross by the hat trick hero found Travis who wasted no time in finishing the move with a fine shot past the bemused Deer Park goalkeeper. The game finished with Polesworth running out comfortable winners by 4 goals to nil.

Mark was able to add that "Corey, the two Toms and Harvey looked unbeatable and several close efforts by the Swifts could have doubled the score. This wasn't the fluent Swifts we've become used to but they were rewarded for the hard work put in by all of them".

Gary (assistant manager) added "Another good performance on Saturday, most pleasing was another clean sheet and a hat trick off Jack, Travis was outstanding and made the difference when he came on to supply Jack, Travis also got the man of the match award".

Our unbeaten league run now stretches to 7 games and inspection of the league table after Saturday's matches shows how important the upcoming game against table topping Amington Juniors who head the table with 2 points more than us has become. Only goal difference separates us from Boley Park and we have a match in hand over them. Our goal difference continues to be a very respectable +34 and our total goals against of only 1 goal as against the 7 against both Boley and Amington could yet make all the difference as we approach the end of the season.

With no game fixtured for next weekend our next game is against Amington Juniors in the league on Saturday 20th November and I will be there!

Saturday 13th November 2010
We did not have a fixture this weekend as the next round of the Invitation Cup was being played.
Our next match is against the league leaders Amington Juniors away at Anker Valley with a 10.30 kick off.

Saturday 20th November 2010 versus Amington Juniors away
It is now two days after this match against the league leaders and I'm still struggling to accept that we have had 6 goals scored against us.

But it is true! The steel core running through this Swifts side to date chose Saturday's game against the league leaders to crumble almost immediately from the kick off.

Within a few minutes we were 2-0 down and rocking. We had opportunities to pass the ball forward but chose to give it away to their two most dangerous players and when they got into the penalty area we chose to panic and try to kick the ball clear rather than tackle or win the ball. Jack managed to reduce Amington's lead to 1-2 with a well taken goal but within minutes and by half time we had surrended another 2 goals and the score stood at 1-4.

At the start of the second half we had at least sorted out our defensive formation but with Jack ploughing a lone furrow up front and not being able to fasten onto any decent through balls or crosses he was always "feeding off scraps" and although able to set up Travis for our second goal it wasn't long before Amington added another 2 goals to run out winners by 6 goals to 2. Yes six goals against us and our total league goals against moved from 1 to 7 in just one game.

If I sound disappointed then I am, but I have to be realistic and accept the lads are still learning this wonderful game and I know that each and every one of them felt this defeat as much as Mark, Gary, Richard and I did but sharing the dissappointment doesn't mean it's any easier to take. Tommy was awarded the man of the match trophy.

Next week we play Amington Juniors again, this time we are at home on the windswept High School playing field and our team has the opportunity to reverse this result.

I have the permission of my younger grandson to watch the U'10 Swifts two weeks running and then I will be able to watch him the following week at the home of the Swifts (Station Rd) when they meet up with PSJFC Clarets U8'S.

Apologies for a rather morose report but by next week I'll hopefully be a bit more upbeat.

Saturday 27th November 2010 versus Amington Juniors at home
This match was called off due to the frozen pitch at the High School. The next match is against Higham at Higham Rec. on Saturday 4th Dec. 2010

Amington Juniors face 2nd placed Boley park at Anker Valley on the same day and the result could make the top of the table interesting for us and keep our season alive.

Not quite a "save our season" scenario just yet as it's only November but shared points or an Amington defeat would make it interesting.
