Friendly versus Coton Green
Back to U9 Match Reports

Lining up for the first time with 7 players on each team the Swifts chose to play in a 2-3-1 formation with Tom & Tommy playing alongside each other for the first time as a defensive barrier, with Danny, Brandyn and Ollie starting as the midfield. Replicating the successful 2010 World Cup teams single striker up front with the midfield pushing up to support on the break.

The game was a close fought match with few chances being made and both goalkeepers rarely troubled. Jack had one or to opportunities to test the Coton Green keeper but on this occassion failed to find the net.

Midway through the game the ball took a vicious bounce on the sun baked pitch and struck Tommy's raised arm and a penalty was the decision. We held our breath as the coton Green player placed the ball on the penalty spot and we prayed that Cory would be able to continue his fabulous run of penalty saves. Unfortunately on this occasion the ball was rifled into the corner of our net well out of Cory's reach. 1-0 to Coton Green and this was the final result after 30 mins of endeavour.

Our close season tour moves on to the heady heights of Birchmoor Rec next Saturday when the U'9s Swifts will be playing a tournament against 4 other teams as part of the Centenary Celebrations for Birchmoor Working mans Club. I'll be there so that I can report on hopefully another successful tournament.
